The Battlefield
Conflict is represented on a hex grid. Edge-to-edge of each hex represents 5 feet of space. Place a representation of each character on the grid to track the position of characters in relation to each other.
Shapes
Many effects take form in a given shape. This illustrates how to form those shapes on the hex grid. The black space is the space where the effect occurs. Cones that start facing an edge expand outwards only every other space.

Creatures taller than 5 feet also occupy space vertically of each space they occupy on the grid. When determining Squeezing and Crowding for spaces at their highest elevation, they count as a smaller creature based on the amount of height that is in that space.
These are for humanoid creatures. Each value can be modified for other types of creatures.
Targeting
As you declare an action that specifies a target, designate a target you can sense well for the effect that is in range. A target is in range if it is a number of contiguous spaces away from a space you occupy equal to or less than its range. If targeting a subject in Reach, the range equals your Reach. Effects that increase range only apply to effects that already have range.
To determine you can sense a subject well, using a Primary Sense you must exceed the DL to sense them by 3. Other senses require you exceed by 9, though allow you to Attack Blind if you exceed by 6.
When choosing your target, if only part of them is within your range, treat them as a smaller target to determine the effect. You cannot affect parts that are out of range, and if rolling for a part because of the effect, reroll if you roll a part you cannot affect. They count as 1 size smaller for each time you halve the amount of them that is in range.
This results in 2 sizes smaller at 1/4 of them in range, 3 sizes at 1/8 in range, and so on.
Area
An effect's Area defines which subjects are affected from where the effect occurs. Each Area has a Tier representing how much area it covers. Each Area that is Tier 2 or higher is shown with a number that is its Area Value for how large of an area it covers. You may reduce the Area Value of an ability you use as you declare it by any amount.
Effects move from their point of creation to the end of their Area. They cannot move through or wrap around physical obstruction. When using an effect that attacks multiple targets, roll once for your attack and roll damage separately for each target.
Yourself (Tier 0)
The effect only applies to you.
Grip (Tier 0)
The effect only applies to subject in your Grip.
This is limited as normal by the amount of Bulk you can Grip.
Subject (Tier 1)
The effect applies to a single specified space or subject. Increase your range by your Reach. Creatures that see the attacker and the subject know what subject you have selected.
Line (Tier 2) and Cone (Tier 3)
Choose a space in range. Increase range by your Reach. Create the shape from that space that continues in a direction away from you for a number of spaces equal to the Area Value of the effect, including the initial space. The effect applies to all creatures and unattended objects in the area. You can choose to be unaffected by a shape you create if you occupy the space it is created in.
Burst (Tier 4) and Aura (Tier 5)
Create the shape that continues in all directions for a number of spaces equal to the Area Value of the effect from you. The effect applies to all creatures and unattended objects in the area. You can choose to be unaffected by a shape you create if you occupy the space it is created in. An Aura moves with you when you move.
Physical Obstruction
All physical creatures and objects obstruct the battlefield. If an obstruction is destroyed during an effect, the effect continues as if the obstruction did not exist.
If a path is fully obstructed, effects cannot pass through the obstruction.
If a subject is a smaller size than an obstruction, effects with Area Tier 2 or higher are blocked and the subject cannot be targeted through the obstruction except by spells that cannot affect the obstruction.
Concealment
Poor lighting, weather conditions, or magic can create Concealment, Tier 1 through 12.
If any space on the path of a sense you use causes Concealment, the highest Tier of that Concealment applies to you. If you are within 1 range of your target, treat the Concealment as 3 Tiers lower.
For each Tier of Concealment your target has, suffer -1 on Awareness rolls affected by the type of Concealment. Concealment against the sense you are using to choose a target also causes half this penalty on targeted attack rolls against them.
Crowded
When multiple creatures and objects share a space, they hamper each other. Ignore creatures and objects 4 or more sizes smaller than you. For each other size 0 or larger creature or object in a space you occupy, have Tier 1 Crowded. Each two creatures or objects of the same size count as 1 size larger. A creature that occupies more than 1 space counts as 1 size 0 creature in each space they occupy. Each Tier of Crowded causes Tier 1 Encumbered.
A space containing 4 size 0 creatures is fully occupied. You cannot move into an occupied space if you would cause it to be more than fully occupied. While in 1 range of a space that is fully occupied, you can target subjects in the space as if you can Reach them even if you normally could not.
